In April, Colombia became the fourth country in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage. Last year, the Inspector General requested that the Constitutional Court invalidate marriages granted to same-sex couples, and subsequently, the debate on same-sex marriage in Colombia was repeatedly delayed. Same-sex couples in Colombia are finally able to enjoy the rights to build a family, fully recognized by the law as their heterosexual counterparts. We commend President Juan Manuel Santos, who has voiced support for same-sex marriage since 2014, for presiding over this ruling.
